5G is very fast; apparently 100 times faster than 4G, and 10 times faster than our average broadband connection. This should enable the next wave of technological and societal advancements that destined to transform our economy: Autonomous vehicles, smart factories (IIoT), smart cities, virtual and augmented reality, edge computing (high-performance data processing in real time without needing the cloud), health-care-specific IoT and more.

My biggest question is if I am driving into my garage and I lose a call will I lose it faster with 5G over 4G.  I am more concerned about the seamless connectivity that will be necessary for 5G to truly perform.  Is the infrastructure actually in place to get 5G to do this?

Walking downtown, I have lost calls, driving in downtown Mt Prospect, I have lost calls.  On vacation out west I drove through to many dead zones for my comfort, which is amusing since 20-30years ago coverage anywhere did not exist.  Also, my house seems to be an epicenter of a dead zone for all carriers.  Have the providers of 5G able and willing to fix these issues?

There will be definite winners and losers with this switch.  The belief is that the IOT as it transforms our lives will force the creation of new companies, industries and the potential for rapid growth for those who are fast enough and nimble enough to grab and keep market share for their businesses.

I believe that the providers who can guarantee seamless coverage over large areas of our country will be most likely the winners in this contest.
