The last couple of years I seem to be taking on clients that are a it behind in the filing of their tax returns. This is not a real problem for me, I prepare the returns for them to file. You cannot electronically file old returns.
But something new has happened in the last week or so, we have been handed a couple of a letters that clients have received from the IRS. Uncle is looking for unfiled tax returns. Now one client I know we prepared the return, we never received the electronic submission filing so we could not file for them. But we informed them on what to mail and where.
So now with the letters in hand the one client has been sent additional copies to mail. The other client has now given us the paperwork so they can meet their requirements to Uncle.
Looks like the government is looking for money wherever they can find it; and chasing scofflaws in one part of the plan.
