Electronic pickpocketing, this is a concern of bankers. Or at least one that I had lunch with a few months ago. Banks typically the issuer of credit cards have more at risk than the consumers.
A quarter of us now carry at least one credit card that transmits data without having to swipe it or process it manually. The data is transmitted wirelessly
to portable scanners, a process that leaves information vulnerable to theft by someone with the right equipment in the area of the card, even if you’re not buying something. A theft can capture and copy the transmission for their own purposes.
Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have developed an on-off switch of sorts that transmits data only when a finger touches a certain part of the credit card. This will make the cards less efficient, if the security is not easy to utilize why have the functionality.
