Does your business have an employee manual? I am aware of more businesses that I should; that do not. But now we have an interesting twist.
So, now employee handbooks are under scrutiny by the National Labor Relations Board. They recently ruled that certain statements in three separate handbooks could be interpreted as inhibiting employees from discussing terms and conditions of their employment. Oh no, the government wants more unions.
The government has deemed that such conversations are protected by the National Labor Relations Act. The NLRB will continue to examine handbooks for language it deems as inhibiting employees from gathering in workplaces to discuss working conditions.
This law applies to all businesses! Beware the employee manual with or with out one. Even mine was read by an HR attorney to make sure it was in proper order.
