Lately I have seen signs stating that there are openings at companies, but only if the have specific experience doing exactly what they are looking for. I imagine that the companies also expect the job candidates to know their corporate culture and company polices as well.
It is even more fun to speculate when the position is in an esoteric trade. I occasionally pass a couple of different locksmiths. Both only want experiences technicians. I guess they can steal from one another but one is in Des Plaines and the other I think is in Broadview. But how would anyone get specific locksmith technician experience. I don’t even see the ads in magazines any longer and it was not in my kids list of electives.
Actually I know companies that look for the right personality for the company culture, with the belief that the specifics of the how and the why of the technical skills will form into the company’s way of doing business.
They tend to look for people with less experience or “bad work habits” from their competitors. They look for the easy fit with the corporate culture; they believe this is more important to maintain the morale of all.
How do you approach your hiring, skills or personality? Because both or never easy.
