Barkly.com in 2017 shared the following information on small business cyber-attacks.

Small to medium sized businesses typically pay the ransomware for the release of their data.

  • The average ransom demand was $1,077
  • 22% of the businesses that experienced the ransomware attack last year, needed to stop business immediately.
  • It is estimated that businesses lost over $100,000 per ransomware incident due to downtime.
  • There was a warning that 1 in 5 businesses that paid the ransom, never received access to their files.

I would imagine that once you pay the ransomware, they will keep coming back.  Especially, since they culprits may have installed back doors to make it easy to do so.  Like a home that is robbed, it is robbed again a month or two later because you now have all new stuff to steal.
