I was talking to a CPA who I was meeting with the possibility of purchasing his practice.  This unfortunately did not work out, but he had an interesting practice.

At one point he was explaining that in the 1980’s and 90’s that he a number of “mob bosses” as clients.  All communications were in person.  Meetings were initiated with a call for him to go to his parking lot, where he would meet with a client in their car.

It seems that they treated him professionally and he did the same.  They paid him promptly and there were no issues.

As he stated it, they learned their lessons from Capone and the government benefited to an extent on their legitimate and probably some illegitimate activities.

It makes me wonder if today’s criminals are as concerned about their finances and IRS.  Based upon what I have read in “Freakonomics” I would have to say no, paying taxes is not a concern for them.
