I know just about everyone has a smart phone and uses it for both business and personal purposes.  A number of people have their bank and credit card information entered and accessible on their phone.

Nothing surprising here, a vast number of people have the totality of their lives tied to their phones.  No one remembers a phone number any longer, they text by image and send e-mails by only starting the names.  Social media is keeping people up to date on who had what for breakfast or lunch.

I myself may know my wife’s phone number, but I have no idea what my kid’s numbers are…  they typically will not use their phone as a phone unless they see that it is me and then only after they review the message, will they call back.

But who has their phone protected with any security?

CNET has the following recommendations for smart phone security:

  • Set a lock code
  • Enable “do not track” in your mobile web browser
  • Block your phone number when necessary
  • Avoid answering spam calls
  • Use a recovery app to find a lost or stolen device
  • Add owner contact information to the device
  • Stay physically secured

These seem to be more about protecting the physical devise.

Personally I would also add use a cybersecurity app to protect your device(s).  I would suspect that there are more malware programs being developed for phones at this point than for PC’s.

What measures have you taken or are you going to take to protect your data?
