I have been having discussions with clients on the potential impact whether good or bad of the prospect of AI (artificial intelligence) on their businesses.  Some are looking forward to further automation; others think there will be a minimal impact on theirs for decades to come.  Others are worried.

I was listening to a podcast with from an engineer’s perspective.  It is their belief that AI will be doing jobs and services that are hazardous to humans or not actually easily capable of being performed by humans.  Quite frankly I thought this was already being done with automation by this point in time.  But apparently there are still various manufacturing jobs that require skills that have yet to be automated.

Frankly this was a perspective that I had not encountered before.  You had Jack Ma, Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have all been outspoken critics or AI and its impact on our culture and outright survival.  Hollywood has not been a fan either: Matrix trilogy, Terminator series as prime examples.

So now we get to wait and see who is correct…
