ABC reported last May and the rumors continue; I have just read that the “free” social media promotion of businesses is disappearing. Facebook especially since the IPO is looking for additional revenue sources. So Facebook and other sites are starting to charge to ensure that posts to your business’s page make it onto more of your followers’ news feeds.
The rationale behind this business decision is that rationing prime space will put money into Facebook’s pocket. The target price is estimated to be $7 a post now and headed higher. Facebook should be concerned, there have been major businesses that were not seeing the returns via Facebook and have moved their dollars. If this happens to smaller targeted businesses who will Facebook court next?
Coming on strong: Real-time bidding for online ads, I have seen the tagline: target marketing 150 milliseconds at a time.
