The final deadline is quickly approaching to become a “Registered CPA”.  Illinois has been a two tiered state and has been moving towards a single tiered state.

What that means is that “Registered CPA’s” have passed the CPA exam but have not maintained the educational requirements necessary to be a licensed CPA.  After June 30, 2012 any person who passes the CPA exam must become licensed to represent themselves as a CPA.

Those who are “Registered CPA’s will continue to call themselves CPA’s but will not need to have an educational requirement.  This will be in place as long they live and continue to pay the state.

I have been a licensed CPA for quite a while now and at present I have 167 ours of CPE and need only 120 for my license.  I also have additional CPE scheduled before September 30th.

Are you working with a licensed CPA, Registered CPA or an accountant?
