As the first weekend comes to a close I am finding the good and bad with my new Kindle Fire.
First the good. It is definitely working for the main purpose I purchased it for, Social Media. Since I joined Socially Promoted I have been working towards meeting the stated goals for the group.
Socially promoted is dedicated to building up our businesses with Social Media. Starting with LinkedIn and Twitter. We are actively cross promoting one another on Twitter. But laptops are bulking and difficult to utilize where we are currently meeting. Having a handheld device should assist in the overall process. This has been exampled by the iPads within the group.
The internet connection has been better that I get on my laptop. I utilize ATT for some of my internet services and I have the cheap modem that they provide. It is not blindingly fast by any stretch of the imagination for my laptop. But the Kindle is able to stream video very nicely.
Now for some of the bad. The Kindle is not like a computer, the transferring of documents needs to go through Amazon for them to download to the Kindle. I have not tried to get anything off the Kindle yet, but I will not be utilizing this for any client information. Security being the number one concern.
The keyboard is also difficult to use, I’m 6’2” with hands the size Bushman’s (much to my children’s delight even in their teens, this amusing them as much now as when they were toddlers, but they also are catching up). So the pecking on the glass is a bit of a challenge, the Blackberry was easy in comparison.
Also with the documents i have sent to the Kindle, I have not found a way to put into a file folder or grouping together.
At the moment I am happy with the purchase. My kids are finding it interesting enough to request it as their Christmas present.
