I was just read about the scam known as “less cash deposit” or “split deposit”.  How it works is that a scammer gets their hands on someone’s deposit slips.  Then the scammer forges a check out to the name on the deposit slip.  The present the forged check for deposit at the bank location listed on the deposit slip.  The total deposit is for a specific amount say $500; in the less cash received line they put $250.  If there is a rush, or just out of carelessness most banks don’t ask for ID the scammer just got away with $250.  The amounts can obviously be for more or less based upon circumstances.

It is estimated that this scam happens more than 2,000 per day st drive-through windows of banks, savings and loans and credit unions.

Everyone needs to be careful of their paperwork.
