Apparently some states are looking at extensive job licensing requirements and rethinking the logic behind them.  There are those that argue that burdensome industry-backed rules keep people from working.

The careers under scrutiny are: cosmetologists, auctioneers, locksmiths, interior designers and athletic trainers.  In Illinois other that in my opinion bear scrutiny would be: pawnbroker, hair braider, shorthand reporter, roofer, social worker, alarm contractor, collection Agency, dietician, nail technician and private security contactor.

Some of the states looking into possible reform are Florida, Michigan and Minnesota. Deregulation of work licensing, in these state can trigger changes in other states who are certain to follow. Critics of lengthy and expensive training argue that the rules benefit existing practitioners by scaring off would-be competitors.

It seems that California (no surprise there), Louisiana and Arizona regulate the most professions.  Wyoming, Vermont and Kentucky regulate the fewest.  So Illinois is somewhere in the middle, and I am sure that they are not looking for deregulation.  They love to increase the fees to increase revenues and drive businesses from the state.
