As the tax season began, I received a number of calls from people who now need to find a new tax preparer.

Some knew their old preparer was retiring, others are surprised to find out that their preparer has already retired.

So, their hunt is on.

One gentleman called and I specified where return fees start.  He requested an in-person meeting to make sure it was a good fit.  I recognize that compatibility is important for the relationship.

He comes in and starts telling me how simple and easy his return is and goes so far as to tell me how long it would take to prepare his return.

I again spell out where are fees start and I would need to see his return to ensure that it is as simple as he states it is.

He then informs me that I charge to much and his return is so simple.  The implication that I should grab the deal.

He never told me how much he wanted to pay or had been paying.  I wished him well, my fees are slightly under H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt and Liberty Tax Services.  As well as my peers. I was told he was aware of their fees.

I wished him well and he left.

Still not sure what he was after, did he think I would discount the fess, just because he came in?!?

Most likely he will need to find a garage preparer that uses a single copy of TurboTax to do multiple returns.
