It appears that the IRS has changed their policy on issuing tax ID numbers. This change is vexing tax professionals.
The agency has decided that it will issue only one FEIN per day to requesters, down from prior five.
This announcement came last month from the IRS. It stated that it wanted to be fair to all applicants. Since this is typically done online what was the issue?
As a CPA who works with many start-up firms and estates this is just another government hurdle to overcome. We now must spread out their requests. Apparently there are industry groups who have already begun pressuring the Service to reverse its decision.
SO we should have a decision in 2015…
