As we all are aware of the people in Chicago typically pay the most for gas than everyone else in the country.
Now these may not be the most recent numbers (they are probably higher today), but they are from March 2011. Besides the base price of gasoline, this now costs more than a gallon of milk. We have a multitude of taxes that are added on to keeps the bureaucracy going.
There is a federal tax of 18cents a gallon.
There is a state tax of 19 cents a gallon.
There is an environmental tax of 1 cent per gallon.
There is a county tax of 6 cents a gallon.
There is a city tax of 5 cents a gallon.
So we pay 50 cents or so for each gallon of gas in taxes. Yeah! This is on top of the sales taxes, telephone, property taxes and income taxes we have to pay. This is also not counting the fees and other government hits that we pay without even thinking, tolls, and parking meters.
So much for the “Land of the Free”, I am sure they are contemplating taxing us for the air we breathe shortly…
