At the Sage Summit a number of the presenter were giving their take on Millennials.  Everything from how they think to how they act to what to expect from them.

I was listening to one Millennial who claimed to be a specialist on her peer group.  She explained that the box Millennials have been put into is incorrect.  She went on to say that the box that defined them was wildly inaccurate and they Millennials could not be put in a box.  She then when on to describe them in diametrically opposite terms from the original box that she said was inaccurate and put them into another box.  Seemingly, she just wanted Millennials in a prettier box…

Now, I work with Millennials with a number of clients.  Depending on the company they are at several levels within companies.

I also have raised two of them not to mention those whom I have encountered.

What I have determined is that they are not a radically different as all who passed before them.  They basically are just louder in their complaints and demands.  Which is how they were raised, I know I raised mine to ask questions and have opinions.  In some respects they are smarter and more mature at their age than I was.  But then I still ride shopping carts in parking lots, so who am I to judge.  But in other ways they are less informed and immature.  In other words, just like all who preceded them.

They may be the largest constituency to come since the Boomers.  So they will have a greater impact then my peers and I did.  But then I had Boomers sitting in management jobs going nowhere when I was starting out.

These Millennials will be needed to fill the void of those who are leaving the workplace.  But they may need to start their own businesses first.  Especially since they have large student loan debts and no jobs available where they are looking.

This can be a good thing for the economy.  If you need assistance in getting a handle on starting a business, call for an appointment.
