I have clients who have family members working in their business.  I have family members working in my business.

I have and had all three of my kids working in my business.  The eldest has been hired and fired more times than both of us can count, working for me is not his desire, and I don’t blame him.  But when I can get him to do it, he edits this blog before posting.  Number 2 has keyed information for a couple clients for me, but now works on special projects mostly as well as maintenance and janitorial,  Number 3 does filing, special projects and janitorial.

For my clients they are also having mixed results.  I have a few clients who second generations in their business with the 3rd are assisting them in various ways.  How these Millennials take their place in the businesses are as different as the people themselves.  A few are dedicated to doing the job right and helping the business to succeed,  While others work part time for full time pay and do their job in a slap dash fashion.  Believing that what was done is good enough.

One recommendation I have had for clients is to not supervise the kids themselves.  Have them report to a different manager.  Someone who can hold them accountable for their actions and job performance.
