I am not a fan of “debit cards”.  I have one, but seldom carry or use it.  First off since I seldom have it I cannot use it.

But that is not the reason.  If you lose your “debit card” you can lose everything in your account up to and including your overdraft protection, with little recourse.

But with a “credit card” if it is lost or stolen.  You are not personally liable for any of the fraudulent use of the card.

Which card is looking better at this point.

Now I understand that people are afraid of over using their “credit card”.  They fear the debt and consequences.  But you can call the credit card company and reduce your credit line to a level that you are comfortable with.

I personally like the free use of someone else’s money for a specific period of time.  I juggle my business purchases and cards based upon their close dates.  I also have never paid a dollar in credit card interest.  But I do play the game and consider it a game.  I also have “SEE ID” as my signature on my “credit cards” to attempt to limit ant fraud potential.  You would not be surprised by how many people do not ask to see my ID.

“Debit cards” just seem to have more risk than reward in my mind.

What is your defense of using your “debit card”?
