An employee who earned an MBA degree gets good news from the Tax Court. The cost can be deducted as an employee business expense on Schedule A.

 

A man who worked as a product marketing manager decided to get an MBA degree with a focus on management and finance. While taking the courses, he left his job and eventually took a position as a research and financial analyst with another firm. The courses improved his current skill set and didn’t qualify him for a new trade. Even though he was unemployed for a few months while he was getting his degree, that doesn’t prevent him from taking the write-off,
