I have a client whose revenue is decreasing by sales erosion.  A surprisingly large number of their clients have reduced their orders slightly year over year.  So the total sales are now 4% less than the previous year.

I have recommended that they monitor their clients transactions and to keep a tighter control on their metrics.  Also as a better way to understand who is ordering what and how much is being purchased.

The client has also setup a web based ordering system for certain clients.  This may allow for increased sales with the easy of purchasing from the clients.

But having the data allows you to monitor the metrics so you can keep better track of your client interactions.  Monitoring the metrics will also assist in determining when a client order is coming due based upon prior transactions, assuming a cyclical sales cycle.
