Do you owe the IRS over $50,000?

As part of the FAST Act, the State Department can revoke, deny or limit passports for anyone the IRS certifies as having a seriously delinquent tax debt in an amount in excess of $50,000.

With modifications to air travel and an Illinois driver’s license not being adequate identification for US security purposes, the passport has become even more important for those who make their living traveling especially within the US.

So beware if you are closing in on a renewal date on your passport and owe the funds.

Since specific on these restrictions are currently few and far between, I would imagine being on a payment plan and being current on the plan should do a lot to mediate your position.
