Illinois has collected more than $100 million in recreational marijuana tax revenue since legalizing sales Jan. 1, 2020 according to the state’s Department of Revenue.

The tax revenue, which includes a cannabis tax, as well as state and local sales taxes, reflects growing recreational marijuana sales as dispensaries continue to open across the state. In September, adult-use cannabis tax revenue topped $20 million, now rivaling the state’s liquor tax revenue for the month.

The state collected about $106 million in adult-use cannabis taxes through September. That is less than half the $227 million in liquor tax revenue this year, but the state’s weed tax revenue is “catching up,” Salustro said.

So why the need for the “Fair Tax”?  No one really trusts the politicians in Springfield.  Like sheep we keep electing the same people.  Expecting them to do their job and clean up government and run it well.

But all they ever seem to do is tax and spend.

Now that the “Fair Tax” plan failed, Pritzker plans to increase the flat tax, and talks about cuts.  The system was broken by Blogavich and has never been fixed.  Madigan and his cronies could have made any and all changes they wanted, having veto rights over Rauner.  So, I look at this as a Democrat failure.
