Surprise! Cutting spending is unpopular, everyone wants more than their fair share of the pie.. Raising taxes is also an unpopular move for politicians. Members of both parties would like to spend more (granted on different things), not less.; social programs for the Democrats; military for the Republicans. To be purely stereotypic.
Democrats tend to favor tax hikes, (but only on the wealthy or those who own anything), which Republicans oppose. Whatever your personal views, it’s not hard to see how contentious these fights will be, and how hard it will be to find compromises on raising revenue or reducing spending to manage the debt.
We as a country are living beyond our means. Eventually, something will give… We have know the bill is coming from our hubris.
