I was on a webinar and the subject of divorce and annulment came up.

For the longest time we did not have a client get a divorce while they worked with us, then it changed and seemingly a number of them were divorcing all at the same time.

We knew our responsibilities with divorcing and divorced clients.

Never had a client get an annulment before.  So, the webinar surprised me with the requirements of an annulment and taxes.

Annulment defined is from a legal procedure that deems a marriage null and void. An annulled marriage is erased from a legal perspective, and it declares that the marriage never technically existed and was never legally valid.

If a client gets an annulment, both parties need to file amended taxes back to the first joint return.  Since the marriage never existed
