We have all heard the idiom that “you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have”.

As we celebrate 250 years of independence, this idiom ties directly to one of our founding fathers during the earliest days on the United States, George Washington.

George Washington deliberately wore a striking blue and buff military uniform to the Second Continental Congress in 1775 to signal readiness for war and his wanting the job of Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.

He got the job.  The rest is history, literally.
