Since a client insisted I get a FOID card and since my son was in the military, I have become aware of a subculture within my client base and family.  They are gun enthusiasts.  I have been encouraged to get my Conceal Carry License from the Illinois State Police.

Under Illinois law, the Illinois State Police must either approve or deny an application for a CCL card within either 90 days if the application includes fingerprints or within 120 days if the application does not include fingerprints.

This is a fallacy and has been for a number of years, to the point that there are a number of lawsuits.

“But despite this statutory command, the ISP commonly does not approve qualified residents’ CCL applications within 90 or 120 days,” the lawsuit claims. “Instead, the ISP leaves applicants in limbo for months, with residents commonly waiting many additional months to receive a CCL. That has been true for some time, and it has only become worse as applications for CCLs have surged in the past twelve months.”

I have personally been waiting over 220 days for my CCL and for July 2021 posted average wait for my grouping states 184 days.

I have called and e-mailed into the void to no avail.  I know contacting my State Representative will do nothing; he has a mediocre reputation, riding on his daddy’s coattails

So as the violence increases in Chicago and beyond, those who want to be legal wait.  This is Illinois at work.

It took 240 days for my CCL to be approved and another two weeks to receive.
