On a long drive to a client, I was listening to NPR and they had a group discussing the value of a college degree, was it still worth the expense and time.

One of the voices mentioned that college spurs the beginning of true learning and balancing it with allowing those to keep producing.

I thought this was an interesting point.  As a CPA I am required to do CPE (Continuing Professional Educational credits).  I need a minimum of 120 hours every three years from qualified services, but I digress.

Once I finished college, I chased after my MSA, then my CPA and then I had securities licenses Series 7, 24, 53 and 66 along with Life and health.  I was compliance and financial planning for a group of financial advisors.

When I had those licenses, I had firm element and regulation refreshers after the series test.

I had to keep learning to keep producing to keep earning.  So, this point resonated in a way, I never thought it would.

When my kids were small and complaining about going to school, I explained to them that these are only the first steps in life’s learning, it continues till you die. They were not happy, but they are witnessing it in their adult lives, as they take classes, tests and certifications well beyond college.

So if you have stopped learning, have you noticed that you are stagnating in your growth?
