Growing up my dad told me to do a number of things, at times I thought he was nuts.

But in my dotage, I see the wisdom in what he said.

Unfortunately, what he needed to do was explain it better to his dim-witted son better first.

Yet, on one occasion I was correct, and my father was wrong.

Granted this was more of an outlier, this was an area that my father had little to no experience with.

I was starting college, and I was going into accounting.  My father’s response, was why the hell do you want to sell shoes…

The only person whom he knew that graduated with an accounting degree was the son of his best friend and he ultimately ending up as a manager of a shoe store.

My father was a computer programmer for a market research company.  He once told as a kid that soon there would be a couple of new cereals coming out, Sir Grapefellow and Baron Von Redberry.

He apparently did not know anyone in the accounting department in his company.  There may have only been one or two people in the department, I just don’t know.  Apparently, my father did not know either.

So, I started off on my college career for accounting, my mother diverted me to an art college for a semester, and I hated the thought of have to constantly be looking for the next job or assignment.

Once I went back to account, my father passed.  He need saw me get my Bachelor’s degree, my Master’s degree or pass the CPA exam.

He definitely never saw me hang out my shingle of my own business.  Best of all I also never sold shoes.
