Growing up my dad told me to do a number of things, at times I thought he was nuts.

But in my dotage, I see the wisdom in what he said.

Unfortunately, what he needed to do was explain it better to his dim-witted son better first.

I forget when exactly he told me, I think I was maybe early High school.  He stated that had no idea where the world or economy was going, but that I should seriously think about becoming an Optometrist.

Here is actually explained himself a bit.  As a computer programmer (he wrote code for punch cards) yes, this was a long time ago.  He also used a terminal to do his functions.  His belief was that soon all would be staring at a screen all day and would wear out everyone’s eyes and that all would need to wear glasses.

I am the only one in my immediate family without a glasses prescription.  At 45 I went to an optometrist, thinking I was going blind.  Only to find out my vision was becoming normal…

At 60 I still see fine without glasses. Yet, I know my father was correct, staring at screens has made the number of people needing glasses increase.  Other than outliers like myself.
