I was reading and article on how the Uber wealthy raise their kids to be the next leaders of the industry and the world.

These three “rules” are common themes

  • To set children up for success, parents should practice honesty and let kids make their own mistakes.
  • Setting limits on screen time and demonstrating a healthy work-life balance can help form good habits.
  • Reading to kids and eating dinner as a family can also teach your child to be more open and outgoing.

I found this most interesting since my wife and I did these things ourselves.

My previous understanding of “Boy Scouts” was to let kids make adult decisions and live with the consequences in a controlled environment.  But Scouting has changed dramatically since my boys finished.

We also encouraged our kids to get jobs while in High School and College. This limits screen time.  But also helps them equate time and money.  Also having a crappy part-time job with a lousy boss is a great College motivator.

My kids remember learned to read from us and not school.  We also still try to have as many family meals together as possible, but now mostly on big events.

We always tried to put their futures first, sounds like we are not alone in this.
