Years ago, the Social Security Administration when you reached a certain age used to send out statement just before people’s birthdays showing projections on how much Social Security they would be receiving at various levels.

They stopped the practice of mailing out the statements, but you could access them online if you set up an account.  Do you verify these numbers annually?  If not, you should especially young people who are more likely to switch jobs. I have had to send them looking for missing income for myself.

Because nowadays in light of extra security most social security numbers are masked everywhere, paychecks, tax form, even W-2’s, only the last four digits are posted.  This makes it impossible to verify that the HR department correctly added the social security to your records.

So the only way to truly verify that you are getting the correct credits under you is to verify them annually on the SSA website
