Had an interesting conversation with my eldest son. At times it seems like I have to have the same conversations with my kids over and over again…

#1 was stating that succeeding in the US today was near impossible, unlike in the past.

I told him he was full of it and had no idea of what he was talking about.  That I have seen it first hand, and heard from others of immigrants who came to this country with nothing and have been able to succeed.  He argues that 20 years ago was a different time.  I agree with that statement, but there are people are still coming in or going into business and succeeding.

Is it easy?  Hell no, if it was most would be doing it.  It takes a lot of hard work commitment and dedication.  But that is no guarantee of success, but without hard work and taking a chance you cannot succeed.

I have had discussions with a banker that explained that his bank focused on immigrants.  The came here took crappy jobs and saved every nickel. Bought a franchise and the entire family worked it, they scrimped and saved and bought another and continued on this path to success. This banker explained that they had a huge amount of Subway and Hotel owners in their client base.  He explained that immigrants like franchises; they help them overcome their fears with support.

I have seen it happen with others just starting off, some with education others without.  But those who achieve success have typically done so through hard work, those who expect success to come to them typically fail.  Those who chase success typically win.
