I was surprised when I investigated who were the movie monster screen chain in the world. I expected most to be in China owned and operated, based purely on population.
But number one is AMC with 11,041 screens, started in Kansas City
Number two is Cineworld, based in London with 9.500 screens
Number 3 is Regal Cinemas from Knoxville TN with 7.200 screens
Fourth is Cinmark from Plano Tx with 5.957 screens
Fifth is Cinepolis from Morelia Mexico with 5.251 screens
Still nothing in China…
Number six is CGV, Seoul, South Korea with 3,459 screens.
Seventh is back to Mexico with Cinemex with 2,861 screens
Eighth is back to London with Vue 1,989 screens
Ninth is Cineplex from Toronto with 1,676 screens
The tenth place position gets us to Chica with Wanda Cinemas with a mere 1,657 screens. Those theaters most be huge to get ticket sales that we get from China.
I was very surprised by some of the results, China was tenth, Mexico has a larger company than Canada. Even South Korea beat China with a larger company.
