IRS must soon start sending out economic impact payments to prisoners, according to a district court orders after two prisoners filed suit, claiming that the agency was wrongly withholding stimulus checks from them.

Nothing in the CARES Act specifically prohibits the Revenue Service from paying up to $1,200, plus $500per child, to incarcerated individuals who are otherwise eligible for the money. But IRS had taken the position that prisoners can’t get the rebate.
